YouTubers, as content creators, are the essential backbone to the major popularity of the platform. The long-term growth of content creators is very important as well as their relationship with their viewers. However, how viewers engage with their favorite Youtubers on the platform isn’t perfect.
Fostering community is seen across multiple social media platforms. Users are capable of creating memorable, personal interactions within their cliques. Identifying the features which encourages user interaction helps to find possible solutions to keep viewers engaged with fellow viewers

USER RESEARCH
After finishing the market research, I conducted 5 semi-structured interviews to understand the user needs on the platform. Each participant have frequently used YouTube as long time viewers. Here are the major takeaways from their responses:
It's easy to miss a post in the community tab, especially while scrolling for that one funny cat video. View new post from your favorite communities with a quick tap of your finger!
YouTube is the most popular video sharing platform in the world. Users can find connecting with their favorite YouTubers to be particularly difficult. Viewers feel video features, such as the like button & comment section, aren’t impactful and have limited interactions that only connects with fellow viewers.
The community tab feature on YouTube should already fulfill this niche on the platform. However, while trying to use this feature, I found that the reason this feature is underutilized due to multiple issues:
How Might We help both users and creators engage in meaningful interactions with each other on the community tab?

User Flow

After multiple rounds of user interviews, I found that some users found connecting with their preferred content creators was particularly difficult. Viewers feel video features, such as the like button & comment section, aren’t impactful and only offer one-time interactions. This limitation leaves very little incentive for users to engage with the content creators or their community.
